2 killed in Chittagong accidents

Two people including a woman have been killed and another has been injured in separate accidents in Chittgong city’s Kalurghat area and Sitakunda upazila on Thursday morning.

The deceased were Mamunur Rashid, 50, a resident of Boalkhali upazila and Ferdousi Akhtar Mina, wife of Imtiaj of Sitakunda, said police sources.

The injured Anwar Hossain, son of Md Idrish was admitted at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said Nayek Shilbrata Barua of CMCH police outpost.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Sajol Kanti Dey of Chandgaon police station said Mamun was crushed under the train’s wheels on Kalurghat Bridge while his cycle got stuck on the rail track, leaving him dead on the spot and another injured.

Anwar was injured when he was trying to save Mamun during the accident, said the SI.

Nayek Shilbrata Barua said Ferdousi was critically injured when a speedy motorbike rammed her at Banu Bazar area of Sitakunda upazila while she was crossing the road at around 10am.

She was whisked off at CMCH while the women succumbed to her injuries at CMCH while undergoing treatment, said the police official.
