Three fishermen received bullet wounds after a group of pirates allegedly opened fire on a fishing trawler on the Bay of Bengal in Cox’s Bazar yesterday.
The injured fishermen Md Elias, 45, Mosharaf, 22, and Raujul Islam, 25, were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, said Nayek Shilbrata Barua of CMCH police outpost. All the injured hailed from Noakhali district, said the policeman.
Quoting one of the injured, Nayek Shilbrata said a gang of pirates opened fire at the trawler in the early hours when they were in deep sea far from Jinjira area of Cox’s Bazar.
They were brought to CMCH around 11:30am, he added.
Mosharaf received a bullet in his eyes while the rest of the two sustained injuries on their legs, Nayek Bashar said.
Contacted, Officer-in-Charge Matiul Islam of Cox’s Bazar police station said he was not aware of any kind of attack by pirates.
