A Dhaka court has granted police 28 more days to submit an investigation report in a case filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on charges of calling the Awami League a party of atheists and secularism, its mask.
Metropolitan magistrate Md Shamsul Arefin asked Shahbagh police to submit the report on February 17 as Shahbagh police could not do it yesterday on schedule.
On October 21 last year, AB Siddique, president of pro-Awami League Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, filed a case with Shahbagh police.
According to the case in brief is that Khaleda on October 14 last year made false and provocative remarks against the Awami League, centring on the religious issue. She even called the Awami League 'a party of atheists, and secularism its mask, hurting the religious sentiment of the people in the country.
After recording the case, Metropolitan magistrate Md Mustafizur Rahman directed Shahbagh police to investigate the case and submit a probe report before it by November 19.
