To mark the first death anniversary of legendary actress Suchitra Sen, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy organised a film festival at its premises.
The three-day long festival started with the screening of “Harano Sur” starring Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen yesterday. Everyday two films of the popular pair will be screened from 4pm to 9:30pm.
Suchitra’s breakthrough role in 1953’s “Sharey Chuattor” a runaway blockbuster and the black and white classic “Ora Thake Odhare” will be screened today. The last day will be concluded with with all-time hit films “Sagarika” (1956) and “Shaat Pake Badha”. Though the films are at least 50-years old, they still have the same appeal for the cinema buffs. Often compared to another famous recluse, Greta Garbo, the doe-eyed beauty captivated the audience for three decades through her ethereal beauty and intense celluloid performance. Born in April 6, 1931, Suchitra Sen, formed the greatest romantic pair in the film industry with Uttam Kumar who passed away in 1980.
Suchitra died in January 17, 2014 in Kolkata, India. She was 82 and had been suffering from respiratory problems for some time
