College teacher killed in Chandpur road crash

A female teacher of a degree college in Chandpur has been killed in a road crash when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided with a Chandpur-bound truck on Chandpur-Comilla highway.

The deceased is Umme Tamima, 38, a professor of Bangla department of Suchipara Degree College in Shahrasti upazila of the district.

Officer-in-Charge of Shahrasti police station Mozzammel Haque Mamun endorsed the information to the Dhaka Tribune.

Four others were injured in the accident and they were given primary treatment at local hospitals, he said.

The accident took place around 10am on Sunday when Professor Tamima was on her way to college.

Locals said the CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver was trying to overtake a truck when it collided with the truck that left Professor Tamima dead on the spot.

The police official said police seized the auto-rickshaw and truck but the drives managed to flee from the scene.

The body was sent to Chandpur sadar morgue for autopsy, he added.

Meanwhile, the students of Suchipara Degree College blockaded the highway for two hours demanding arrests of the culprits.

They were also seen vandalising vehicles during the blockade.

Later, getting assurance from the local administration, they removed the blockade.
