Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has reopened on Sunday, nearly two months after it was declared closed following a clash that left a student dead.
SUST Proctor Professor Dr Himadri Shekhar Roy said classes were not held till 11am due to low turnout of students.
Additional police have been deployed in the campus area to avoid further untoward situation, said Jalalabad police station Officer-in-Charge Akhtar Hossain.
On January 10, SUST syndicate decided to reopen the university on January 18.
The syndicate meeting also directed that only students who have been allotted seats will be allowed in dormitories.
Earlier, SUST authorities shut all academic activities as a student of the university died following a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League on November 20 last year.
