Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) will reopen on Sunday nearly two months after it was closed following a clash that left a student dead.
On the eve of resuming the university, SUST authority along with police jointly made a search operation in all three dormitories - Shahporan Hall, Bangabandhu Hall and Syed Mujtoba Ali Hall – in presence of executive Magistrate Kamal Hossain on Saturday noon.
Akter Hossain, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad police station told the Dhaka Tribune police recovered some sharp weapons during the search.
Provosts of Shahporan, Bangabandhu and Syed Mujtoba Ali Hall were also present during the raid.
On January 10, SUST syndicate decided to reopen the university on January 18.
The syndicate meeting also directed that only students who have been allotted seats will be allowed in dormitories.
Earlier, the SUST authority shut all academic activities as a student of the university died following a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League on November 20 last year.
