Three people have drowned as an overloaded boat capsized in the Meghna River near Bipin Shah Ghat in Sadar upazila on Saturday afternoon.
Narsingdi sadar police station Officer-in-Charge AKM Abul Kashem confirmed the deaths to the Dhaka Tribune.
The deceased were identified as Morsheda Begum, 25, her daughter Suborna, 8 and Sufia Begum, 55.
At least 15 more people were injured in the incident. They were taken to Narsingdi sadar hospital.
The overloaded boat sank in the river at 2:30pm immediate after it started journey from Narsingdi to Chardighal, locals and passengers said.
Locals and fishermen rescued the passengers and sent them to Narsingdi sadar hospital where the doctors declared three of them dead.
