A district court has issued arrest warrant against former state minister for Education ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon in a case filed for not submitting the return of expenditure of ninth national election.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashim Kumar Dey issued the warrant on Thursday afternoon, as he did not appear before the court.
Seven other accused in the case also faced arrest warrant.
Chandpur district the then polling officer Mesbaul Hoque filed the case against Milon and five others on July 28, 2009, Milon's lawyer Advocate Mainul Islam Khan told the Dhaka Tribune.
Milon's lawyer filed a time petition mentioning that the former minister is now in Saudi Arabia for performing Omrah.
However, the court rejected the petition and issued arrest warrant against Milon.
The former minister is accused in 31 cases filed in different courts and police stations in Chandpur. He was arrested on March 14, 2010. He was released from jail in June, 2011.
