Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel will use firearms against the arsonists only if such situation is created, Director General Major General Aziz Ahmed has said.
The BGB chief made the remarks in a press conference at the BGB headquarters on Thursday morning.
"The BGB personnel have the rights to save their life if they are attacked. If someone hurl petrol bomb to people in front of me, I will not chase him with sticks. I will surely attack him to save five other lives," Aziz Ahmed said.
He also said the BGB would have to be tougher to prevent the arsonists during blockades and hartals.
Mentioning that currently BGB personnel are deployed in 17 districts, he said they are not facing any problem in regular duties in the border areas because of the deployment.
