Update : 14 Jan 2015, 06:45 PM

State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan has said the country’s situation was “almost normal” as blockade was not being observed in most parts of the country.

“Apart from a few incidents of vandalism and arson in Gaibandha’s Palashabari upazila and Rangpur, the overall law and order situation of the country was normal,” the

junior minister said at a foundation laying ceremony held at Bangladesh Coast Guard base in Chittagong yesterday.

“Traffic movement on the major highways of the country was running smoothly under the protection of police and Border Guard Bangladesh,” added the minister.

Expressing shock over the gun attack on Khaleda Zia’s adviser Reaz Rahman, the junior home

minister said investigation was on and every attacker will face legislative action.

Unidentified people shot Reaz Rahman and torched his car at the capital’s Gulshan area yesterday minutes after he held a meeting  with the BNP chief Khaleda Zia at her office.

The minister laid foundation of an Officers’ Mess for Bangladesh Coast Guard yesterday.

He said strong vigilance of the Bangladesh Coast Guard have curbed the number of crimes done using river and sea routes.

“Government plans to provide more logistics to the coastguards in near future,” he said.

A total 350,000 pieces of yaba tablets, 5,050 bottles of liquors and 4.50 kilogrammes of hemp were destroyed in presence of the minister at the ceremony.
