Launch collision kills 3 in Meghna

Three people have been killed and 14 others injured in a collision between two launches in Meghna river at Chandpur.

The deceased are Sohana Begum, 60, of Ramchandrapur village, Rupa Begum, 30, Abrar Shakil, 6.

Passengers said Barisal-bound MV Parabat-9 rammed into Dhaka-bound MV Sundarban-8 at Boro Station Molehead area around 1:30am on Tuesday, killing Sohena on the spot and injuring the others.

The deceased and injured are the inhabitants of Ramchandrapur village in Barisal. They were all returning back to Dhaka after attending a family programme.

Mobarak Hossain, port director of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) in Chandpur told the Dhaka Tribune: “Of the injured, eight were sent to Dhaka where Shakil and Rupa succumbed to his injuries.”
