Police yesterday recovered Tk1.22 crore of Tk1.57 crore, which was earlier found stolen from the vault of Rupali Bank’s Faridpur branch, from the residence of the bank’s peon in Shibrampur village. Peon Abul Kalam was arrested.
Police conducted a special drive at the peon’s house around 6:30pm yesterday and found the money inside a polythene bag hidden in a drum.
Police Super Jamil Hassan and Kotwali OC Mohsinul Haque led the drive.
Earlier in the day, the bank officials had found the bank vault unlocked with Tk1.57 crore missing.
Police had detained five persons, including the cashier and a security guard, in this connection.
Bank Manager Khan Md Shahidul Islam said they had found the vault locker unlocked upon entering the office in the morning.
