A four-year old girl has been burnt to death in a devastating fire at Mohammadpur slum in the capital.
The deceased is Fatema, daughter of a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw driver Joynal, hailed from Madaripur, said Md Azizul Hoque, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur police station.
Fire fighters recovered the burnt body of the child in the afternoon four hours after the fire broke out, the OC said, adding some 400 shanties were gutted in the fire.
The fire broke out at Katashur slum in Mohammadpur around 8:28am on Sunday, Fire Service and Civil Defence Control Room Officer Md Mostafa told the Dhaka Tribune.
A total of ten fire fighting units brought the blaze under control around 9:40am, he added.
The cause of fire could not be ascertained yet and the loss in the incident could not be estimated immediately, the fire service official said.
