More than 50 people sustained injuries after two groups of villagers locked into sporadic clashes in the district's Tekerhat on Saturday.
Witnesses said the inhabitants of Tantikandi village under Rajor upazila and Moksudpur village under Gopalganj upazila locked into sporadic clashes from 10am over setting up new houses, grabbing government land.
More than 50 people, including journalists and police injured in the clashes, said the police.
The injured were admitted at different hospitals.
There was a long standing dispute between the two groups of villagers over land, said locals.
Assistant Police Super, Madaripur, Abu Bakar Siddique said: “Being informed, the police and the members of Border Guard Bangladesh rushed in and brought the situation under control around 4pm.”
“15-kilometre tailback occurred on Dhaka-Barisal Highway due to the clashes. Later, the traffic became normal around 3:30pm.”
