Two policemen closed for assaulting journalists in Rajshahi

Two policemen including a sub inspector has been closed for assaulting a journalist in Rajshahi amid countrywide blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20 party alliance on Friday.

The incident ensued around 10:30am at the Rajshahi Government College premises leaving a journalist injured.

The injured journalist is Sohorab Hossain, staff reporter of Jamuna Television in Rajshahi.

Later, he took treatment from a private clinic.

Sohorab told the Dhaka Tribune after being informed as Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists brought out a procession in support of the blockade on Friday morning, he along with other journalists rushed to Rajshahi College.

“While the JCD activists fled away after completing the procession but police failed to nab the JCD men and reportedly assaulted the journalists,” Sohorab said.

“When we protested, sub inspector of Boalia Model Police station SM Jahangir ordered policemen to charge batons to the journalists,” said Rasel Mahmud, camera person of Jamuna TV.

Protesting the incident journalist called on the Rajshahi police commissioner Muhammad Shamsuddin and filed a written complaint to take immediate action against the responsible policemen.

Police Commissioner Shamsuddin ordered sub inspector SM Jahangir and constable Bulbul who were involved in the attack as closed to be the police line at once.
