The Anti-Corruption Commission is set to run another inquiry against former Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) chairman Engineer Nurul Huda over allegations of corruption with plot distribution during his tenure.
The ACC approved the fresh inquiry against the former Rajuk chief at its regular meeting on Wednesday and appointed Deputy Director Julfikar Ali as the inquiry officer, an ACC official confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.
Another ACC source said this time the commission would investigate the plots Nurul had allotted to himself and his family during the distribution of Rajuk plots, following a complaint submitted in this regard.
In one such case, Nurul took a 10 katha (around 0.07 hectare) plot at Sector 9 of Purbachal New City project for himself, but then he took another plot there in his wife’s name, violated Rajuk’s policy which bars government officials from allotting government plots to their family members after they have been allocated said plots themselves, the ACC official said, seeking anonymity.
Nurul also allegedly cancelled the allocation of plots for independent working women, disregarding the prime minister’s order, sources said.
A letter was sent to Nurul on September 27, 2010 to hand over the allocated plots to the women, and to make changes in the plot allocation policy, if necessary, in this regard. However, Nurul disregarded the PM’s instruction and cancelled all plot allocations for the working women between 1999 and 2005.
The ACC approved the other inquiry on June 17 last year, but he was discharged from the case in November. Nurul was appointed Rajuk’s chairman on March 30, 2009 for two years, but his tenure was extended several times before finally ending April 20 last year.
