Four people, including a local Swechchhasebok League leader, were killed and ten others injured in separate road accidents of the district yesterday.
In Wazirpur upazila, three persons were killed and five injured when a bus collided head-on with a three-wheeler auto-rickshaw on the Barisal-Banaripara road in Narayanpur area around 11:20am.
Two were identified as Awlad Hossain, who worked at Barisal customs and excise and Hannan Haoladar, from Nazirpur upazila of Pirojpur.
The three-wheeler driver, Hanif, was admitted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical Collage Hospital (SBMCH) in a critical state.
However, driver of the bus managed to flee the scene. The bodies were sent to the SBMCH morgue for autopsy.
In Bandar area of the city, a bus run over a local leader of Swechhasebok League, associate body of AL, as well as five others and fell into a roadside ditch after losing control over its steering on the Laharhut-Charkawa road at Dinererpool around 12:10pm, leaving him dead instantly, said Bandar police station OC Rezaul Karim.
The accident killed Monowar Hossen Panna, 40, general secretary of Tungibaria union unit Swechhasebok League, whose bode was sent to the SBMCH morgue for autopsy.
