Some breathtaking artworks by internationally acclaimed artist Kalidas Karmakar are on display at the La Galerie of Alliance Française in the capital.
The exhibition titled “Alluvial Rhythm” has been organised to celebrate the artist’s 70th birth anniversary on January 10.
Another solo exhibition titled “Alluvial Return”, which is the artist’s 70th solo, is also going on at the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Alluvial Rhythm displays 34 artworks, including prints, paintings and installations, of the versatile artist who has used an array of mediums like digital lithography , wood-block mixed media, etching, multimedia etching and aquatint.
By depicting human faces, gods and goddesses, human limbs, horse riders, geometrical structures and blurry human figures, Kalidas captures the viewers and at the same time creates an aura of mystery.
In one of the artworks, which is an Intaglio Etching done in 1977, Kalidas has depicted a dark square having human faces, and Hindu goddess Kali inside. However, the upper surface (or the roof) of the box has been depicted in orange colour and a chimney, vomiting dense, black smoke out in the air, is located on it.
A hand, which is wide open and trying to catch flying butterfly but cannot because of it being entangled with lashes, has been portrayed in colour in another work.
These pieces were also previously exhibited in different countries like Poland, Japan, France, Korea and America.
