Benazir Ahmed: RAB will be a high tech force

Taking charge yesterday, the newly appointed Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Benazir Ahmed said he would work sincerely to turn RAB into a high-technology based force to fight against terrorism and militancy.

“New forms of technology are being discovered in every moment in the world to tackle terrorism and militancy. I would first observe the capacity of RAB and later take decision about new technology for it,” said Benazir while talking to journalists at the battalion’s headquarters in the capital’s Uttara.

About RAB, which is suffering from image crisis especially for cross fire and Narayanganj-seven murder, the DG said he would give his best efforts to make the force as one of the strongest force in south-east Asia.

He said: “RAB has been working for the last 11 years with utmost sincerity, dedication and professionalism to maintain law and order in the country.” 

About seven-murder, he said: “Narayanganj seven murder is a scattered incident, nothing else.” 

“If any RAB officials involve in any crime, action will be taken against those officials as per the existing law, said Benazir.

Asked about which action RAB took against militancy, he said: “Our main aim is to curb organised crime, terrorism and militancy.”

Mentioning RAB as every citizen’s force, Benazir said: “We would work together to get people’s trust and ensure their peace and security.”

RAB is using for political interest, in replay of such question, new DG said there were a section of political pople who tries to find out politics in every things. RAB will do their job without giving priority on them, he said.

Among others, Additional DG (admin) of RAB Aftab Ahmed, ADG (operation) Col Ziaul Ahshan, Director of Legal and Media wing Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan, were present on the occasion.

Additional Inspector General of Police Benazir was the commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for over four years. He replaced the Additional Inspector General of police Mokhlesur Rahman who went on retirement on December 30, last year.
