A compilation book of Rana Plaza carnage titled “24th April: Outcries Of A Thousand Souls” was unveiled in the capital yesterday.
Victims and their families unveiled it along with distinguished guests at the auditorium of Bishwo Shahityo Kendro.
Bangladesh Garment Workers Solidarity edited the book, stating 162 workers as missing and 1175 others as killed, including the missing ones, in the tragedy.
Anjuara Begum, mother of a missing worker called Hridoy; Ruby Begum, mother of a dead worker named Sentu and a missing worker called Sikander; Selina, sister of a missing worker named Santona; Abul Kashem, father of dead workers Uzzal and Afzal; severely injured workers Eanur, Jewel, Professor Sirajul Islam Choudhury, Professor Anu Muhammad, human rights activist Hamida Hossain, Barrister Jotirmoy Barua, among others were present at the ceremony.
Labelling the book as a compilation of history, Professor Sirajul Islam Choudhury said this book was about the shouts, shrugs, tears and protests.
'What happened inhumanly seems to have disappeared today, but this book will keep it alive in future,” he said.
Professor Anu Muhammad said the scenario of the garment industry should have been changed after Rana Plaza tragedy, but it did not, which indicates that the owners and the government were not concerned about it at all.
The compilation book has 480 pages with 9 chapters. It is dedicated to the souls of Rana Plaza, Tajreen and so on tragedy victims.
Bangladesh Garment Workers Solidarity Coordinator Taslima Akter presided over the programme.
