Despite of the nationwide dawn-to-dusk hartal, the textbook distribution festival is being held across the country today (Thursday) in a festive manner.
The Education Ministry has issued a statement in this regard.
"Anti Liberation War forces are enforcing strikes to demolish the education system of the country, they are trying to foil the festive mood of innocent students of receiving new books on the first day of new-year," Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said in the statement. "But the education ministry would distribute books and celebrate 'Text Book Distribution Festival' at all primary and secondary schools and madrasas across the country," he added. This year, a total of 32,63,47,923 textbooks will be distributed free among 4,44,52,374 students of primary, secondary, ebtedai (primary level of madrasa), dakhil (secondary level of madrasa) and vocational classes of the 2015 academic session.
