At least 40 shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Chitalmari Upazila Bazar in Bagerhat district on Tuesday night. Sources said the fire broke out at a petrol shop and soon engulfed the nearby shops.
Chitalmari police station Officer-in-Charge Dilip Kumar Sarker said on information, firefighters from Tungipara, Bagerhat and Nazirpur went to the spot and doused the fire after two hours of hectic efforts.
Three people were injured in the fire.
They were admitted to Chitalmari Upazila Hospital. The shops owners claimed the loss caused by fire could go up to Tk10crore.
UNO Didarul Alam said a three member probe committee was formed in this connection.
