In a major reshuffle in the police administration, the government has appointed Additional Inspector General of Police (Admin) Shahidul Haque as the new IGP and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Benazir Ahmed as RAB chief. DIG (Highway) Asaduzzman Miah has been made the new DMP commissioner while Additional IGP Mukhleshur Rahman appointed as the chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). He has been promoted to the post of Adl-IGP (current charge).
Incumbent police chief Hassan Mahmood Khandaker and RAB Director General Mukhlesur Rahman are set to retire.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs has promoted 83 police officials to different ranks.
According to a press note of the Home Ministry, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina signed the appointment letters.
However, a gazette notification is yet to be published in this regard. A home ministry official told the Dhaka Tribune that the gazette would be published by this evening.
Five assistant inspectors general (AIGs) have been promoted to the post of additional DIG, 16 additional SPs to SP, 28 ASPs to additional SP and 34 ASPs to the rank of senior ASP. On Monday, the Home Ministry transferred 55 senior police personnel, including three additional IGPs, commissioners of five metropolitan units and the three DIGs of three divisional ranges. Additional IGP (current charge) Muhammad Aminul Islam has been made the commandant of Bangladesh Police Academy, Sardah, Rajshahi. Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nowsher Ali has been transferred to the Chittagong Range as its DIG. He will be replaced by Additional DIG of Rajshahi Range Mohammad Obaidullah. Khulna Metropolitan Police chief Helal Uddin Badri has been posted as a DIG to the Police Headquarters. Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Aftab Uddin Ahmed is now the additional director general of RAB.
