Eva Green looked on the bright side in a dark and foreboding teaser trailer for the upcoming second season of Showtime’s “Penny Dreadful.” The 34-year-old actress portrays the mysterious and afflicted Vanessa Ives in the critically-acclaimed horror series.
The 43-second season preview released on Wednesday opened with Vanessa in a window and providing a voice-over. “The time came when I learned the curse was also something of a blessing. I’d learned to make use of the gifts I had been given. Will you do the same?,” she said.
The hidden blessing seemed to come at a price as Vanessa was shown collapsing on snow-covered ground. The narration was delivered over quick scenes including Josh Hartnett as brash American adventurer Ethan Chandler looking over two dead bodies in a ransacked room and Timothy Dalton as explorer Sir Malcom Murray riding in a carriage. The trailer tiled A Curse And A Blessing also showed blood splatter on a wood floor in the shape of a red lobster and a creepy hand reaching out of a bathtub.
Characters in the series including immortal Dorian Gray from the Oscar Wilde novel, monster maker Victor Frankenstein from the Mary Shelley novel and Abraham Van Helsing from Bram Stoker’s “Dracula.”
Penny Dreadful will return next year for a 10-episode season.
