Former state minister Abdul Mannan Khan sued

A complaint suit  has been filed against former state minister for housing and public works Abdul Mannan Khan with a Dhaka court for alleged attempt of murder and physical assault.

AB Siddique, president of pro-ruling party organisation Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, filed the case with the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Dhaka on Monday.

According to the case details, the former state minister, also an Awami League leader, attended a Victory Day celebration at Joypara Pilot School in Dohar upazila, Dhaka on December 16, where he launched an attack with some 40-50 supporters when the presenter did not mention his name.

The complainant claimed that the Awami League leader and his followers vandalised the stage, tore the banner that carried the image of Bangabandhu, and set off a crude bomb.

The also snatched the petitioner's gold chain and wrist watch. Mannan also threatened lawmaker Advocate Salma Islam, who was chief guest at the programme, and Md Nurul Kabir Bhuiyan, upazila nirbahi officer of Dohar, another guest, and humiliated all the guests, Siddique stated in the complaint.

He mentioned Advocate Salma Islam and nine others as witnesses in the case.

After recording the complainant's statement, Senior Judicial Magistrate Nazmun Naher Nipu directed the OC (investigation) of Dohar police station to investigate the matter and submit a report before the court within February 20.
