42,500 unemployed youths to get jobs under NSP

A total of 42,500 youths, including women, will be provided with jobs under the third phase of the National Service Programme (NSP).

Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan made the statement while talking to the journalists after the cabinet approved the proposal of third phase of NSP in its regular meeting on Monday.

He said: “The government has fixed a budget of Tk661 crore for the project which is a part of the government's 2008 election pledge of creating job opportunities.

“Under the programme, job opportunities would be created for around 42,500 unemployed youths in 17 upazilas of 17 districts.”

The cabinet secretary said: “The minimum education qualification for the jobs is HSC pass while the applicants have to be at least 24 to 25 year-old to apply for the jobs.”

Musharraf said the programme will start in January 2015 and continue till December 17, of the same year.

Jobs for around 16,036 unemployed were created in the second phase of the programme for the youths from eight upazilas in Rangpur, Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Nilphamari, Gaibandha and Lalmonirhat districts under Rangpur division.

In the first phase, 56,054 unemployed youths aged between 18 and 35 years were employed after a three-month basic training on ten modules in 19 upazilas under Kurigram, Barguna and Gopalganj districts since 2010.
