Update : 07 Feb 2014, 03:21 AM

The third brand new Boeing 777- 300ER aircraft of Biman arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal Airport on Friday afternoon.

The national flag carrier's Chief Engineer Debabrata Banik told the Dhaka Tribune: "The brand new Boeing 777-300ER arrived at Shahjalal Airport around 12:50pm."

The new aircraft was welcomed by Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Khurshed Alam and Biman Bangladesh’s CEO Kevin Steele among others.

Earlier on Thursday, Boeing, the world's leading aerospace company, handed over its fourth generation aircraft to Biman in Seattle.

Biman sources said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was expected to join the induction programme of the new aircraft named "Akash Pradip" to be held on the next week [Sunday or Monday] at the VVIP ramp of the airport. The programme will also bid farewell to old DC-10.

The national flag carrier will receive its fourth Boeing 777- 300ER, named "Ranga Provath", in mid-March, Biman's official sources said.

The Boeing delivered the first and second 777-300ER aircraft, named "Palki" and "Arun Alo", powered by twin engines and housing 419 seats, in two-class configurations to Biman in 2011.

Apart from these four Boeing 777-300ERs, Biman would also procure four Boeing 737-800s and two Boeing 787-8s by 2019.

The airplane is equipped the world's largest and most powerful commercial jet engines.

According to the Biman, the Boeing 777-300ER powered by General Electric GE90-115BLs is 19% lighter than its closest competitor, greatly reducing its fuel requirement.

It produces 22% less carbon dioxide per seat and costs 20% less to operate per seat.
