Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has paid rich tributes to her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at his mazar in the district's Tungipara on Saturday.
Sheikh Rehana, younger daughter of Bangabandhu, and other family members of the prime minister are accompanying her.
After placing the wreath around 12 noon, the premier stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of respect to the memory of the architect of the independence.
A special prayer was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu, Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib and other martyrs of August 15, 1975 massacre.
Prayers were also offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs of the War of Liberation as well as the country's continued peace, progress and prosperity.
Later, she exchanged views with the top leaders of Goplaganj, Kotalipara, Tungipara, Muksudpur and Kashani upazila.
Earlier in the day, she arrived in the district by a helicopter around 12 noon. She is set to return Dhaka at 3:30pm.
