Update : 26 Dec 2014, 03:55 PM

A 48-hour transport strike will be observed in 10 districts of the south-western region of the country from December 31.

The divisional committee of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers' Federation in Khulna announced the programme on Friday afternoon, seeking implementation of their four-point demands.

The organisation's president Azizul Alam Mintu said similar programmes will also be observed in the other parts of the country to realise their demands.

The demands include keeping the existing three years’ punishment for road accident, not to prosecute the transport workers under section 302 for accidents, reducing complexity of issuing driving license and curbing corruptions, stopping police harassment in the name of vehicle test and demolish illegal structures on roads and highways.

He said the decision to call the strike was taken at a meeting of the federation on December 17.

The formal announcement of the strike will be made in a press conference on December 29 in Jessore, he said.
