Christmas, the biggest religious festival of the Christian community, was celebrated with enthusiasm and various arrangements yesterday across the country.
The day began with prayers in different churches in the capital in the morning. The biggest prayer took place at Japamala Rani Church in Tejgaon. Prayers were held twice at the Roman Catholic Church in Kakrail.
President Abdul Hamid exchanged Christmas greetings with foreign diplomats, dignitaries and members of the Christian community in the afternoon. Conveying best wishes for all, he cut the cake with the Christians.
Christians celebrated the occasion with their friends and families, exchanging greetings and gifts. They followed rituals and gave donations to helpless neighbours and relatives.
Many programmes were organised across the capital to celebrate Christmas. The five-star hotels organised special events, including dinners and appearance of Santa Claus.
