Farmer killed by BSF in Chuadanga border

A farmer has been shot to death and two others have been injured by the members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at Medinipur border of Jibannagar upazila in Chuadanga.

The deceased is Mashiur Rahman, 35, son of late Abdur Rashid.

The bullet injured are Jamal Hossain, 28, son of Robiul Mondol, and Abul Aziz, 25, son of Naju Biswas, hailed from Harinagar village of the area.

Lt Col SM Moniruzzaman, director of Chuadanga BGB 6, said: “BSF members from 173 battalion opened fire on the farmers when they were working in their crop field around 5:30pm on Thursday.”

Locals rushed to the spot and took them to the Jibannagar hospital immediately.

Mashiur died on the way to hospital and two injured are undergoing treatment at the hospital, he added.

BGB protested the incident in a flag meeting held around 6:30pm with BSF.

They called for another flag meeting to stop such incidents in the bordering areas.
