Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the authorities concerned of the national television channel – Bangladesh Television – to meet public demand while producing programmes.
The premier made the call while inaugurating week-long golden jubilee programmes of BTV in the capital’s Rampura Bhaban premises on Thursday, reports BSS.
Praising the channel, she also called the authorities concerned to cope up with latest technology.
"The government wants to make BTV as a real national institution. So, BTV must keep it abreast with new technologies and public demand while producing programmes,” the premier said.
BTV should not be limited in supplying information. Rather it will air life-oriented programmes to attract audience and will work as an institution which will reflect the demands of the people, she added.
As the prime national broadcaster BTV's responsibility is quite different from private channels.
“Private channels give priority to their business while BTV have to give importance to the demand of the people,” she said.
She asked the concerned officials to create scope for talented, creative and competent persons in producing BTV's programmes to retrieve the past glory.
The PM inaugurated newly constructed 12-storied BTV Headquarters marking its golden jubilee.
Noted singer Ferdousi Rahman, also the first singer of the state-run television and first Director General of BTV Jamil Chowdhury attended the function as guests of honour.
Secretary General of Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union Dr Javad Mottaghi and Director General of BTV Abdul Mannan also spoke on the occasion.
