Detective police have arrested the prime accused in the case filed over the killing of Sramik Dal leader and three of his family members at Labankati village in Mymensingh.
Hafizur Rahman Tonu, 35, was arrested from Ershad Nagar in Tongi on Wednesday night.
Harirbari union Sramik Dal General Secretary Rafikul Islam Bacchu, his wife Parul Aktar, daughters Jinia and Tinia were slaughtered on December16.
Police Super Moinul Hoque said: “Tonu has confessed that he killed Bacchu and his family members for debt. He hacked and suffocated them to death.”
“Bacchu had lent Tk80,000 from Tonu to buy a car more than an year ago,” he said.
The official said Tonu looted cash, gold ornaments, television and cloths after killing the Sramik Dal leader and his family members.
