President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted the members of the Christian community on the eve of Christmas Day, the greatest religious festival of the Christians commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.
In a message, President Abdul Hamid called for upholding the tradition of religious harmony in the country.
"Jesus Christ was one of the greatest men who appeared in different ages to preach the greatness of the almighty creator and led human being towards the path of truth, justice, peace and mutual harmony," he said.
The president said people of the country have been promoting mutual respects and love to each other for a long time.
He also lauded the contribution of the Christian community to the development of education and society in the country.
The president expected that people of all strata of life unitedly would continue their efforts to build a happy, prosperous and non-communal Bangladesh.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, called upon the people irrespective of caste, creed and religions to come forward to expedite the development activities of the country.
"The goal of Jesus Christ was to establish justice and peace in the world while his entire life was dedicated to bringing a sense of relief in human lives," she said.
The premier said, "He remained as an immortal figure for his lifestyle and qualities of character."
"Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. People of all classes are enjoying full freedom in exercising their respective religious activities," Sheikh Hasina added.
She said, "The Christmas Day will further strengthen the relations between Christians and the people of other communities."
