The fire that broke out at the "Singapore Market", an infamous tin-shade market in the port city's Agrabad Chhotopul area, has been brought under control on Wednesday night, two-hours after it originated.
Deputy Director Asaduzzaman Sheikh of Chittagong Fire Service and Civil Defence told the Dhaka Tribune that the fire broke out at a shop around 6:30pm and soon engulfed the entire market.
“Six units of fire fighters from the headquarters rushed to the spot and managed to control it around 8:20pm."
The reason behind the fire and the extent of the damage could not be known immediately. No report of casualty has been filed till writing the news around 7:30pm.
