Prosecutors dedicate verdict to war heroines

Update : 23 Dec 2014, 07:02 AM

The state prosecutors have dedicated the tribunal verdict that awarded death penalty to razakar commander Syed Mohammad Qaisar to the war heroines and children of the 1971 Liberation War.

They made the statement while giving their reactions before media on Tuesday afternoon, immediately after the tribunal handed down the verdict.

Chief Prosecutor Rana Dasgupta said: “We had sought compensation for the victims and war children. The tribunal has saluted them. It [tribunal] said it's the duty of the nation to give them respect.”

“As the law does not mention anything regarding compensation, the tribunal suggested the government to identify the victims and start a compensation scheme for them,” he said.

Prosecutor Turin Afroz said: “We dedicate the verdict to the war heroines and children. This is the first time that the tribunal has given observation regarding the crimes.”

The three-member International Crimes Tribunal 2, led by Justice Obaidul Hassan, found Qaiser guilty on 14 counts out of 16.
