President offers ziarat at Ajmer Sharif

President Abdul Hamid has offered ziarat at the holy Dargah Sharif of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (R), a symbol of communal harmony, visited by Muslim pilgrims as well as Hindus, Sikhs.

Ajmer city mayor Kamal Bakoliya and high government officials received the president when he reached this holy city by a helicopter on Monday morning.

Abdul Hamid went round different parts of the Dargah, located 135 kilometres west of Jaipur, the state capital of Rajasthan.

He offered ziarat and munajat seeking peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh.

During the visit to Ajmer Sharif, he handed over a "gilaph" to the Dargah Sharif authority.

Known as Gharib Nawaz "Benefactor of the Poor", Moinuddin Chishti is the most famous saint of the Chishti Order of Sufism of the Indian subcontinent.

It has been estimated that around 125,000 pilgrims visit the site every day.

Later, the Bangladesh president visited Amber Fort in Jaipur which is known for its artistic style of Hindu elements.

The Amber Fort was built by Raja Man Singh I, one of the first war chiefs of Emperor Akbar.
