Arrest warrant against Harris, 10 others

A Habiganj court has issued arrest warrants against 11 accused, including Khaleda Zia's former political adviser Harris Chowdhury, in a case filed for murdering former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria murder case.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Rashid Ahmed Milon issued the warrants after accepting the charge sheet of the case on Sunday afternoon.

Tk80,000 highest basic proposed for civil servants

The commission also proposes the formation of a new bank named "Sommriddhir Shopan"

The national pay commission has submitted its report to the finance minister outlining Tk80,000 as the highest basic and lowest Tk8,200 for the civil servants.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith said the new pay scale will be implemented from July, 2015.

Jute genome decoder Maqsudul Alam passes away

Scientist Dr Maqsudul Alam, the decoder of the genome sequence of the indigenous variety of jute, has died at the age of 60.

The scientist breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the Queen’s Hospital of Hawaii in the United States (US) early Sunday, BSS reported.

15 DU admission seekers arrested

Police have arrested 15 Dhaka University admission aspirants when they were going to meet the vice chancellor to place their demands.

Sub-Inspector Saheb Ali of Nilkhet police outpost said the students were arrested as police had information that they would carry out subversive acts to the vice chancellor's house.

Pakistan issues arrest warrant against TTP chief

An anti-terrorism court in Pakistan has issued non-bailable arrest warrants against eight persons, including Pakistan Taliban chief Mullah Fazlullah, for in a case filed for the militant assault on Karachi airport in June.

The court issued the warrants on Sunday, reports the Times of India.

Militancy cases filed hastily, trials delayed

The authorities concerned were quick in filing a large number of cases and pressing charges against suspected militants after they had carried out series of subversive activities since 2005.

However, the trial courts have failed to conduct the cases in a similar pace apparently due to non-appearance of the prosecution witnesses that also include members of the law enforcement agencies.

President, PM mourn Maqsudul Alam's death

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed their deep shock at the death of noted scientist Professor Dr Maqsudul Alam, inventor of the genome sequence of jute.

They expressed their condolences in separate messages issued on Sunday, reports BSS.
