Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday directed the authorities concerned to distribute blankets in the cold-hit areas by giving priority to the people above 60 years, orphan children and the people with disability.
She gave the directives while receiving 3.70 lakh pieces of blankets from 19 member banks of Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) at her official Ganobhaban residence in the afternoon.
The banks contributed the blankets to the prime minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund for distributing those to the cold-hit people across the country.
Chairmen and directors of the respective banks handed over the blankets to the premier.
Having received the blankets, the prime minister thanked the bank authorities for their noble gesture and called upon the affluent section of the society to stand beside the poor and cold-hit people.
She said the poor and the distressed people are ultimately benefitted if the well-off people donate to the prime minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund.
Hasina asked the officials of her office to distribute the blankets quickly among the cold-hit people.
President of Bangladesh Association of Banks Nazrul Islam Mazumder, who is also the chairman of EXIM Bank, conducted the function, while the premier’s Military Secretary Major General Mia Mohammad Joynul Abedin was present among others.
