A new intercity train - Bijoy Express - has been introduced to the Mymensingh-Chittagong route.
Railway Minister Mazibul Hoque inaugurated the introduction of the new train at Mymensingh Railway Station on Friday night.
The train will leave Mymensingh for Chittagong at 8pm everyday and depart the port city for Mymensingh at 7:20am.
The government has been working relentlessly to modernise the railway communication system, the minister said while addressing the occasion.
Some 45 projects are underway for building a modern railway communication network in the country, he mentioned.
The railway communication of all district headquarters with Dhaka will be established by 2021, Mujibul expressed hope.
Among others, Minister for Religious Affairs Principal Motiur Rahaman, local MP Fatema Zohura Rani were present on the occasion.
