Rockstrata to perform after 22 years

Update : 18 Dec 2014, 06:11 PM

After about 22 years, the Rockstrata, a musical band which is a pioneer of heavy metal music in Bangladesh, is going to perform in a live show.

The LiveSquare will arrange the gig at the KIB auditorium in Farmgate area of the capital on January 9 next year.

The band was much active in the live concert scene between 1986 and 1992 in the country.

The gig is going to be a significant incident in the band’s history as it will be consisting of original tracks of the band.

Mainul Islam, the guitarist of the band, told the Dhaka Tribune: “For the first time, we are going to perform our own songs in the live show as we were used to cover music of international heavy metal acts on live shows in the 80s and 90s,”

“After the release of our first album in 1992, we could not manage to arrange a show as most of the members of the band left the country for their higher studies soon,” he added.

The second studio album of the band, “Notun Shader Khojey”--released in 2014, was developed and recorded in abroad.

“When we see many of our followers on social media, and some new rock bands formed in Dhaka in the last two decades, sometimes expressed that Rockstrata played a little base part on their inspiration of music; it propelled us to make happen the gig,” Mainul said.

All other members of the band are already reached home and are currently busy on jamming. The line-up for the first album will perform in the gig.  But vocal Shoaib Rahman was yet to confirm to perform at the programme.

The current line-up is: Mushfiq Ahmed on vocals, Imran Hussain on guitar, Mainul Islam on guitar, Arshad Amin on bass and Mahbubur Rashid on drums.

In the launching progarramme of the band’s second album in last February, only Arshad Amin was present physically. The other members joined the ceremony over the video conference from abroad and no live performance was materialised from the band’s part. Mainul said they are going to introduce some interesting things like documentary and interviews surrounding the gig.

The title of the gig “One Last Live” suggests that this will be the band’s last live show.

“We are still stick to the idea of last show.  But I do not know what will happen after the show. Who knows we would not change our mind after see the post-gig feedback?” Mainul said.

“But it will really be difficult for us to make this happen again,” he added.
