600 saplings cut down in Natore

Some unidentified miscreants have cut down around six hundreds mango saplings at Takinagar village under Paka union of Bagatipara upazila in the district.

The incident took place on Tuesday night, Aminur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bagatipara police station told the Dhaka Tribune.

Locals saw saplings cut down early Wednesday and informed them to the owners, said the victims.

The victims – Abdul Alim, Anwar Hossain, Jhantu and Tanu Molla – said they have jointly planted around 600 mango saplings after taking lease of some 28 bighas of land 2 months ago.

The miscreants cut down all the saplings on Tuesday night, incurring loss of around Tk7 lakh, they added.

The police official said he did not find any written allegation in this connection.

However, on information, he sent Sub-Inspector Mohidul Islam to visit the spot.

If any written allegation was made, police would take legal initiatives in this regard, the OC said.
