Tourism industry can make the highest contribution to the country's economy by surpassing garments sector, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon has said.
The minister came up with the hope while speaking at the inaugural session of a workshop titled 'Workshop on SWOT analysis of Bangladesh's tourism industry' at the capital's CIRPUR auditorium on Wednesday morning.
Menon said: "Tourism sector can surpass the garments sector, the highest foreign currency earners now in the country, in near future.”
A tourism friendly mind set-up coupled with collective effort is essential to solve the problems in tourism sector, he suggested.
The minister urged all concerned government and non- government organisations to work together for the sustainable development of the sector.
Civil Aviation Secretary Khorshed Alam Chowdhury, BTB Chairman Aparup Chowdhury and Bangladesh Parjatan Board Chief Executive Officer Akhteruzzaman Khan Kabir were present in the programme, among others.
Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) organised the workshop.
