Victory Day celebrated across country

The 44th glorious Victory Day was celebrated across the country yesterday  with a view to establish a non-communal, prosperous and democratic Bangladesh and complete the trial of war criminals in line with the spirit of liberation war.

Our Barisal correspondent reports: The day’s programmes started with the placing of wreaths at the monument for martyred freedom fighters in the town. 

Different social-political-cultural organizations arranged many programmes marking the day.

Barisal Reporters Unity, arranged day-long programme at BRU premises where Aruna Rani Saha, artist of Swadhin Bangla Beter Kendra attended the programme as special guest.  City Corporation Mayor  Ahsan Habib Kamal inaugurated  the progamme.

The district administration and Muktijoddha Sangsad jointly arranged a discussion on the occasion. Freedom fighters, family members of the martyred attended the function.

Munsiganj correspondent said, at least 67 freedom fighters, who were injured in 1971-war, accorded reception in the auditorium of Shilapkala Academy in the district. Al-haj Mohiuddin attended the programme as chief guest.

In Comilla, the day was celebrated with the call for completing the trial of the rest war criminals in line with the spirit of victory.

District administration, freedom fighters, political parties and various social and cultural organizations chalked out different programmes to mark the day.

On the day a colourful march past, discussion, cultural function, photo exhibition, sports competition and reception to the freedom fighters were held.

Beginning of the day at one minute past of twelve mid-night Deputy Commissioner Omar Faruk, Railway Minister Mujibul Haque, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal placed floral wreath at the memorial in the town.

It was followed by different organizations including Muktijodha Sangsad, police administration, district council.

Nilpahamari correspondent said, the day was celebrated in a befitting manner in the district.

The day’s programmes started with 31 gun salute and placing wreaths at the foot of the monument of the martyred freedom fighters in front of the deputy commissioner’s office.

Wreaths were placed at the portrait of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

A grand march past participated by police, Ansar, freedom fighters, government orphanage, BNCC, Girl Guides, scouts and cubs of different organizations, schools, colleges and other socio-cultural organizations arranged programmes in the morning.

Discussion and cultural programmes were held at district Shilpa Kala Auditorium in the afternoon.

In Bhola, to mark the day, Muktijoddha Sangsad, Awami League, BNP,  Workers’ Party, Union of Journalists,  District Council and other organizations placed wreathes at the foot of the monument of the martyred freedom fighters.

The day was also celebrated in many other districts including Madaripur, Gopalganj, Brahmanbaria, Chandpur, Chapainawbganj, Khulna, Sylhet and Chittagong.
