President Abdul Hamid has taken salute and inspected parade marking the 44th Victory Day on Thursday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also attended the parade at National Parade Ground organised and conducted by 9th Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army, reports BSS.
Jatiya Party Chairman and Special Envoy to the Prime Minister HM Ershad and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Rawshan Ershad attended the programme. Thousands of people from all walks of life witnessed the spectacular two-hour parade. The President, accompanied by parade commander Maj Gen Waqar uz Zaman, riding on an open jeep inspected the Victory Day Parade and took salute.
Aircraft of Army aviation, Navy aviation and RAB helicopters enthralled the spectators with fly-past while the Air Force presented aerobatic show and the Army paratroopers displayed parachute landing. The army, police, coast guard, Ansar, Bangladesh National Cadet Corps, fire service, participated in the parade. Different ministries also showcased their activities there. The new addition Bangladesh Army-Multiple Launch Rocket System, MBT-2000 tank, self propelled gun, armoured light vehicle and weapon locating rudder SLC-2, new addition Bangladesh Navy-defender class boat were on display during the parade. The parade ground was decorated with the images of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, four national leaders and still pictures of Liberation War. The programme ended with a spectacular fly-past by Air Force's MIG-29 and greetings from the band players. Upon his arrival at the parade venue, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, chiefs of the three forces welcomed the President. Earlier on her arrival at the parade ground at around 10:23am, the Prime Minister was received by Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque and chiefs of the three services. Speaker, cabinet members, freedom fighters, senior civil and military officers, enjoyed the event. Some 17 war heroes from India also attended the programme.
