Former deputy director general of news at Radio Bangladesh (now Bangladesh Betar) Faiz Ahmed Chowdhury died in the Suburban Hospital in the United States on Tuesday.
Faiz was suffering from interstitial lung disease. He breathed his last at 7:30 am.
One of the six children to Quamruzzaman and Raisunnesa Chowdhury in Kolkata, Faiz grew up in Bangladesh. He studied at Armanitola School, Notre Dame College and Dhaka University.
From an early age, he developed a knack for performing arts and sports. He obtained a Masters in History from Dhaka University.
Chowdhury later channeled his penchant for radio performance into an early career in journalism at Radio Bangladesh as an Assistant News Editor.
He gradually rose to prominence to become assistant press secretaries to two successive Bangladeshi presidents. This led to a long illustrious career in government service as a private secretary to many cabinet ministers.
However, he culminated his career by returning to his first love, journalism, as the Deputy Director General of News at Radio Bangladesh.
Faiz Ahmed Chowdhury married Dr Sadia Chowdhury in 1972 and was a father of two children, Adnaan and Ashnah, both of whom live in the Washington DC.
