Meghmallar to hit cinemas today

Update : 11 Dec 2014, 07:38 PM

“Meghmallar,” a feature film adapted from legendary writer Akhtaruzzaman Elias’ acclaimed work, “Raincoat”, is all set to hit the country’s cinema halls today.

Based on the Liberation War, the film won the National Filmmaking Grant in 2013. Bengal Creations Ltd produced the film directed by Zahidur Rahim Anjan.

After a watching the premier show of the 92 minute-long drama on November 18, distinguished film critics, including Muhammad Khashru, praised the first directorial venture of Anjan. Khasru, also pioneer in country’s film society movement,  has recently written an extolled criticism on the film.

He wrote: “The silence depicted in the film ‘Meghmallar’ has become the symphony of sound at the end. The under-acting in the film seems very cinematic. How the depictions of the constant raining, the lone railway track without a trace of single locomotive, the secluded greenery have come through Sudhir Palsane’s camera, I never observed the phenomena in any other Bangladeshi film before.”

In an earlier interview with the Dhaka Tribune, the film’s female lead actor Aparna Ghosh said: “I read the novel earlier and it was one of my favourites. When the director asked me to play the role, I did not think a twice before accepting the offer of the project.”

“I feel privileged to be considered for such an important part,” she said.

In the film, Aparna will act as the female protagonist Asma.

Unlike conventional portrayal of the Liberation War, the film depicts the survival story of a middle-class family, not the horrors, sufferings and upheaval.

Other major casts of the film includes the national award winner Shahiduzzaman Selim, Jayanta Chattopadhyay, Zara, Aminur Rahman Mukul, Mosharraf Karim and Aditi.
