National Electricity Week begins today

The National Electricity Week 2014 begins today with the aim of creating awareness on energy saving and improving consumer services in the capital.

The theme Jalchhe Alo Chalchhe Desh, Agiye Jachchhe Bangladesh, roughly translated means Bangladesh Advances as The Nation Runs with Lighting.

“The week-long programme will focuse on energy saving as well as providing better consumers services,” State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid told a press conference at the city’s Biduyt Bhaban yesterday.

Two seminars would be held during the electricity week, he said.

The state minister said one seminar on the role of private investment in power sector would be held on December 12 and another on addressing customer satisfaction in power sector December 13 respectively. Electricity week is being observed since 2010.

President Md Abdul Hamid will formally inaugurate the Electricity Week at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).

A three-day scout camping will also be held on December 16-18 to create awareness about electricity saving.

The exhibition will remain open from 10 am to 8 pm every day from December 11 to December 13.
