An official of Bangladesh Bank has filed a defamation complaint against the chairman and CEO and three other journalists of Ekushey Television.
Mohammad Abu Taher Bhuiyan, senior data entry control operator of Green Banking and CSR section in the Bangladesh Bank, filed the complaint on Monday morning.
The accused are ETV Chairman and CEO Abdus Salam, Chief News Editor Md Ibrahim Azad, Staff Reporter Faruk Hossain and video journalist Abdur Razzak.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashok Kumar Datta recorded the statement of the plaintiff around 11am.
The court ordered the officer-in-charge of Tejgaon police station to investigate the matter and submit a probe report on January 8, next year.
In the complaint, the plaintiff mentioned that ETV aired a series report on him on November 22 and 23. "The TV channel had hidden the truth and presented fake, baseless and fabricated news about me."
He stated that the reports showed that an official of Bangladesh Bank (the plaintiff) has become owner of a company, New Tex Limited, through "astonishing activities".
"The reports also claimed that I have lifted Tk24 crore from foreign trade corporate branch of Janata Bank in the name of the company, which is totally baseless," the plaintiff said in the complaint.
"I do not have any involvement with the board of directors of the company. Md Abul Kashem Bhuiyan is the chairman and Md Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan is managing director of the company. No transaction of the company is done without their signatures," the central bank official mentioned.
The plaintiff also pleaded the court to issue arrest warrant against the accused.
